About the Artist
Chris
Saper's portraits are currently held in more than 250 private and
corporate collections throughout fourteen states and Canada. A member
of the Palette & Chisel Academy in Chicago, the Pastel Society
of America, and the American Society of Portrait Artists, Saper has
exhibited at the US Senate Rotunda, The Salmagundi Club, The National
Arts Club in New York City, Vermont's Bennington Center for the Arts,
and numerous venues throughout the southwest.

In May of 2005, "Mayra" received a Certificate of Excellence
from the Portrait Society of America. In February, 2003, three of
Chris Saper's portraits took awards at the San Francisco Portrait
Arts Society Annual Competition: People's Choice, Third Place, and
Honorable Mention. Other recent awards include First Place, West Coast
Society of Portrait Artists; the Pastel Society of America's Oregon
Society and Mrs T. C. Digiovanna Awards; American Artists' Professional
League's Director's Award, and Silver Medal, International Association
of Pastel Societies. Saper's work is also the subject of a one-hour
television program, which continues to air regularly on Phoenix Cable
television.
Saper is a contributor to John Howard Sanden's World of Portrait Painting, writing a regular column, "Portraiture
and the Pursuit of Excellence."
In addition to her full-time commissioned portrait practice, Saper
is an active speaker, demonstrator and instructor, teaching regularly
at both the Scottsdale Artists' School and at the Mountain Artists'
Guild in Prescott AZ.
Since becoming a faculty member of the Portrait Society of America
in 2006, Chris has participated at the PSA's annual meeting, "The
Art of the Portrait", in the capacity of demonstrator, panelist
on topics of interest, portfolio critiques, and book signings. In
the fall of 2007, Chris conducted a demo and workshop for the Society's
Academy, held at the San Francisco Academy of Art University.
Chris Saper has studied with noted portraitists including Bettina
Steinke, Burton Silverman, Harley Brown, William Whitaker, Daniel
Greene, Phil Beck and Dan Gerhartz. She holds a Bachelor's Degree
in Fine Arts and a Master's Degree in Health Care Administration. |
